After much discussion we decided to have the party at an indoor trampoline facility called Sky Zone that just opened a few weeks ago.
<br />
<br />
When I booked the party I was given a stack of pre-printed invitations as a part of the package. Normally the craft-snob in me would scoff at these invitations, but I waited so late that I felt forced to use them. Or so I thought. When I pitched the idea to my kids, my oldest looked at me and said (cue the sad music) "but Mom, you always make our invitations". Ouch. I desperately tried to come up with valid reasons that a soon-to-be 9 year old would buy as to why I would not be making the invitations this year, but to no avail.
<br />
<br />
I had just started putting a design together when my youngest son declared that he would really love to have a pop-up card. Really? I only had 3 days to design and construct these invitations, so a pop-up card (that I've never made before) might be a stretch. And then my son gave me "the look". Needless to say, I made the invitations. Here is the outside of the card...<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgzjPT_obK3zzrwyww5PwXbp2r9cMdyKzXx3IsAXYat95UWHUxFaI7kl01KUtYkpZF7ITdVI7Tn_RWErz36Xy0HyVs2Ar2pW7jhvPfxZeOdYyF1pgRK8kCb3xCTGxvE3eKpenFcmKCA1Fg/s1600/birthday+2013+pic1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="282" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgzjPT_obK3zzrwyww5PwXbp2r9cMdyKzXx3IsAXYat95UWHUxFaI7kl01KUtYkpZF7ITdVI7Tn_RWErz36Xy0HyVs2Ar2pW7jhvPfxZeOdYyF1pgRK8kCb3xCTGxvE3eKpenFcmKCA1Fg/s400/birthday+2013+pic1.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
...and here is the inside - my kids are "jumping" out of the invitation. Please note that the enormous heads were my husband's idea - apparently it has something to do with sports.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjwrmdbzOclq8XydBTz7rJf3T29tuXx_iLtty5UixxAthnRGDij5pyZR3ZS4-Sfrpm-jN7XCI2KlvBzq8zrs2OOWd013ZzhEgmqL_Hj_BLHCv_7HqItRfcFQmQ9_6fzH8_W9QB1Mxijhco/s1600/birthday+2013+pic2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="308" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjwrmdbzOclq8XydBTz7rJf3T29tuXx_iLtty5UixxAthnRGDij5pyZR3ZS4-Sfrpm-jN7XCI2KlvBzq8zrs2OOWd013ZzhEgmqL_Hj_BLHCv_7HqItRfcFQmQ9_6fzH8_W9QB1Mxijhco/s400/birthday+2013+pic2.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
Here's how the pop-up effect works - I found directions for this <a href="http://ohhappyday.com/2011/05/diy-pop-up-cards/">here</a>.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgbqmo3lMIQgEbtu0uAUVhaFFNSj82u_QuhKvMyBzHeK5ZFaotnWVgwwT1cmKy9mMt0Z5xjSM1PFstWKXDFcvYsXZ3dQWo39NWHbpgaQFU6hiMnhv1JD4b75w3QkTqgxBGlrpRg9mVkvOU/s1600/birthday+2013+pic3.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgbqmo3lMIQgEbtu0uAUVhaFFNSj82u_QuhKvMyBzHeK5ZFaotnWVgwwT1cmKy9mMt0Z5xjSM1PFstWKXDFcvYsXZ3dQWo39NWHbpgaQFU6hiMnhv1JD4b75w3QkTqgxBGlrpRg9mVkvOU/s640/birthday+2013+pic3.jpg" width="424" /></a></div>
<br />
I didn't care for the design on the cake that was included with the party package, so I decided to make a cake topper instead. I made a trampoline with the boys (again with big heads) jumping on it.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEis9cHPpqd7ivECyv-BNBc7L-6yONnh95sAtvUv2oMsqkUxdl8eJiYk0sG1yzpd2EW29SBYrhLECLGKp6pb8ulm3KZqJj42GqMCiDHxTFxWwTjR1K61KieEGh5WCX8-45dFeKJ-3jgpPPU/s1600/birthday+2013+pic4.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEis9cHPpqd7ivECyv-BNBc7L-6yONnh95sAtvUv2oMsqkUxdl8eJiYk0sG1yzpd2EW29SBYrhLECLGKp6pb8ulm3KZqJj42GqMCiDHxTFxWwTjR1K61KieEGh5WCX8-45dFeKJ-3jgpPPU/s400/birthday+2013+pic4.jpg" width="335" /></a></div>
<br />
The trampoline was made out of foam paper and popsicle sticks...<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjs2GtuqUCGJvBxSJMLllAtXA2cr2cMcPpS8FoPkOG2nSuw1Yd4_opvDM8_qpsNtYycrbHrUZSMm_Sc2trqdPtqmm2U7SKn_4j7jlCqA9uOSPGri8VP8t11-Hn1oKqsUtfBRba23NaUYSE/s1600/birthday+2013+pic5.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="252" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjs2GtuqUCGJvBxSJMLllAtXA2cr2cMcPpS8FoPkOG2nSuw1Yd4_opvDM8_qpsNtYycrbHrUZSMm_Sc2trqdPtqmm2U7SKn_4j7jlCqA9uOSPGri8VP8t11-Hn1oKqsUtfBRba23NaUYSE/s400/birthday+2013+pic5.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
Now that I had created custom invitations and a custom cake topper, I decided to complete the trifecta and create custom banners for the party. Each banner had my kid's name...<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEicjiT0b5cQQN0bRpPtfXWUaeUZsnbsb8JcTLWmeELf3Jq5x_5s0g_PJvqs6ynGYOM1JaEz1LcmRBBRa61F7NatxO_4swuhbvuddSUFJaPx0d3MDQzwCMBA1otz8odf76dT-L0Zd9sQUus/s1600/birthday+2013+pic6.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="242" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEicjiT0b5cQQN0bRpPtfXWUaeUZsnbsb8JcTLWmeELf3Jq5x_5s0g_PJvqs6ynGYOM1JaEz1LcmRBBRa61F7NatxO_4swuhbvuddSUFJaPx0d3MDQzwCMBA1otz8odf76dT-L0Zd9sQUus/s400/birthday+2013+pic6.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
...and a birthday boy jumping on a trampoline.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiMgcx8nWJDPxNOrDVE9qsvbAFZ4Lew2VDEaDQrst86mb_R-LE0KVAcP1sRJQlx14IamaYIiBAD49q_tEsek3lFHsual3xGeMWgmvTADCHLrNRMqkD-yUbGhe62_KmbG9Qdj2FYXioYOXI/s1600/birthday+2013+pic7.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiMgcx8nWJDPxNOrDVE9qsvbAFZ4Lew2VDEaDQrst86mb_R-LE0KVAcP1sRJQlx14IamaYIiBAD49q_tEsek3lFHsual3xGeMWgmvTADCHLrNRMqkD-yUbGhe62_KmbG9Qdj2FYXioYOXI/s640/birthday+2013+pic7.jpg" width="440" /></a></div>
<br />
According to my guys the party was a big success, so Birthday 2013 is officially a wrap!

But I started a project last week that made me eat those very words! I absolutely love ribbon wreaths - here's <a href="http://www.sheskindacrafty.com/2011/03/ribbon-maniac.html">one</a> that made me smile. So, with me being crafty and all, I figured I could make one with no problem - I mean it's just ribbon!
</br>
</br>
I decided to make a St. Patrick's Day-inspired wreath...
</br>
</br>
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg1j6lQzSMP-RZf0PB2t15nYEosYAZs6pL-Y_W18q9i_A_fAMhUGXV6Jbg6yrObTHwMmRd0I8PuAsT3QoXxGHvWWI05kiP2CPApy0YJxeb3hRwg8tWYnr3sGqBow8upK_BB5DqvxY7sSzo/s1600/ribbon+wreath+pic1.jpg" imageanchor="1"><img border="0" height="397" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg1j6lQzSMP-RZf0PB2t15nYEosYAZs6pL-Y_W18q9i_A_fAMhUGXV6Jbg6yrObTHwMmRd0I8PuAsT3QoXxGHvWWI05kiP2CPApy0YJxeb3hRwg8tWYnr3sGqBow8upK_BB5DqvxY7sSzo/s400/ribbon+wreath+pic1.jpg" width="400" /></a>
</br>
</br>
...and it took FOREVER! After cutting and gluing each little strand of ribbon I thought I was going to have a breakdown!
</br>
</br>
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh8Xf1HiI8NQz45a4DVqyzrjhv9a3j74pJSa2RuucGx1Sa2AodC7P3MmB6bYqX7MfsGD6aaU_uKmO4k0yQS8eAvLG53PwBTwlDTDEMHQHbQj-NXFqE8wEwTTpVKIiZhbOXYVxxOgoAxQhY/s1600/ribbon+wreath+pic3.jpg" imageanchor="1"><img border="0" height="265" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh8Xf1HiI8NQz45a4DVqyzrjhv9a3j74pJSa2RuucGx1Sa2AodC7P3MmB6bYqX7MfsGD6aaU_uKmO4k0yQS8eAvLG53PwBTwlDTDEMHQHbQj-NXFqE8wEwTTpVKIiZhbOXYVxxOgoAxQhY/s400/ribbon+wreath+pic3.jpg" width="400" /></a>
</br>
</br>
Much respect to all of you ribbon wreath makers out there - you all are a patient lot! Thanks for the inspiration, but I'm sticking with foam paper as my go-to choice of craft material!

I know it happens every year, but I was completely unprepared for Valentine's Day this time. Last week I kind of acknowledged that I should start preparing things when the V-Day class lists came home from school. However it wasn't until yesterday morning when my youngest son asked me what he was handing out that I really started to panic. Thank God for all of the crafty people out there who graciously share their creative ideas on the net! I did a quick search and stumbled upon an adorable idea for a V-Day card <a href="http://www.blissbloomblog.com/2012/02/make-ninja-pop-valentines.html#.UR0YR2c1DTo">here</a>.
</br>
</br>
So, here is my attempt at what I'm calling a Cupid Ninja Tootsie Pop Card.
</br>
I used the following materials - Tootsie Pops, white tissue paper, tape and red raffia ribbon.
</br>
</br>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgK8t9-UbS-Sh7nRRvi6nP1PaosE0w5cwuwZ7pnG4wnFWt9TaIb0t7XHwRv3cQyqEMuu_Btlf30hoheT95ZlfeHH-FBbETx1Am4PYDd4trVReW5xOv5A_Wnir-weOuheSxenqlzn3YNnK8/s1600/IMGP1837.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="285" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgK8t9-UbS-Sh7nRRvi6nP1PaosE0w5cwuwZ7pnG4wnFWt9TaIb0t7XHwRv3cQyqEMuu_Btlf30hoheT95ZlfeHH-FBbETx1Am4PYDd4trVReW5xOv5A_Wnir-weOuheSxenqlzn3YNnK8/s400/IMGP1837.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
</br>
I found a free image of a flying ninja on the internet and printed it on cardstock paper (I modified the image to remove the head). I then folded the paper in half and punched a 3/4" hole along the crease where the head would be...
</br>
</br>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjYU-9YF9EQx6tjVgh9Y4e417StP0FPX4rdb3a94x5rFYCwjoKJ80Mi9LAyk87BXQ1c5h2qBcJ8YE1oxbWMzWYTGtOaebr1c0wXSP87BnfIh-a_-7a678F_EhKukhQI4aAcVuVR8tWsGhc/s1600/IMGP1832.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjYU-9YF9EQx6tjVgh9Y4e417StP0FPX4rdb3a94x5rFYCwjoKJ80Mi9LAyk87BXQ1c5h2qBcJ8YE1oxbWMzWYTGtOaebr1c0wXSP87BnfIh-a_-7a678F_EhKukhQI4aAcVuVR8tWsGhc/s400/IMGP1832.JPG" width="270" /></a></div>
</br>
Finally I printed out some eyes on label paper and put the whole ninja together. Here's the result...
</br>
</br>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiiRI5ulFJt7yoEwpYPgciAlEax8y9tVe_KwVwlmjDvKX3ootDVu92ZJuNI1TEeNeLSSAWclEdiv4OV9zynchY7goKbtOx2olFNPZHk-_RlWmg3P3rm1Rz6MIzZj64tiBCgvkEIkMet5vo/s1600/IMGP1847.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="265" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiiRI5ulFJt7yoEwpYPgciAlEax8y9tVe_KwVwlmjDvKX3ootDVu92ZJuNI1TEeNeLSSAWclEdiv4OV9zynchY7goKbtOx2olFNPZHk-_RlWmg3P3rm1Rz6MIzZj64tiBCgvkEIkMet5vo/s400/IMGP1847.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
</br>
Oh wait, did I mention that I started constructing these at 9pm last night and that I had to make 40 of them? And yes, it took forever!
</br>
</br>
I hope you were more prepared for this day than I was. Have a wonderful Valentine's Day!
</br>

Despite the fact that I've known about the party for well over a week, I somehow waited until the last minute (TODAY) to pull something together. So, here are a couple of DIY gifts that don't take too long to assemble and won't break the bank!
<br />
<br />
<b>
Gift Idea #1: Single Serve Mimosas
</b>
<br />
I thought it would be cute to give do-it-yourself individual mimosas to the party hostess. Here's what you need...
<br />
<br />
One 12 oz bottle of Orange Juice
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjzH6cDZkwt4Ob7g0kZN4xmDJHkWcagKCORK_OcdfCpHclJNDjvTnXTedV-ePHF0cIhMZe8rAhx5f-2HTcmIgcagQKM6vGsVftNrVVe8mWiX0_MSqF2rxQK7XPfLdNFHOJEz7P58XTDnvQ/s1600/OJ.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjzH6cDZkwt4Ob7g0kZN4xmDJHkWcagKCORK_OcdfCpHclJNDjvTnXTedV-ePHF0cIhMZe8rAhx5f-2HTcmIgcagQKM6vGsVftNrVVe8mWiX0_MSqF2rxQK7XPfLdNFHOJEz7P58XTDnvQ/s400/OJ.jpg" width="266" /></a></div>
<br />
One 187 mL bottle of Champagne
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgGew10GCM9lzHQjSeqdcLnaRnu8KssQEnwHgnA9N5mEOu5oPmM4CCDm3t18qtFs4pFmDgSCORr1FJcVYACOA5dF6tebE5XaKF6ZnjbmciFSAR0hAbxo0VdlCi0PFbRf31KAZVuZA5_kE0/s1600/Bubbly.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgGew10GCM9lzHQjSeqdcLnaRnu8KssQEnwHgnA9N5mEOu5oPmM4CCDm3t18qtFs4pFmDgSCORr1FJcVYACOA5dF6tebE5XaKF6ZnjbmciFSAR0hAbxo0VdlCi0PFbRf31KAZVuZA5_kE0/s400/Bubbly.jpg" width="266" /></a></div>
<br />
One plastic champagne flute
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi4cgLsmUWJJlnvtPLHbZM8wOqACQV85Y9AJ96ht-P1ZsmulFwNk5GcuwwlaK0XAYCL6dJhkYtbPy6v1XNHZnejyQdVAiuTOgPfM1tK6_oeHcAcBybGxjfk5okBNTQt1z6yQn4bJ8PWzRY/s1600/Glass.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi4cgLsmUWJJlnvtPLHbZM8wOqACQV85Y9AJ96ht-P1ZsmulFwNk5GcuwwlaK0XAYCL6dJhkYtbPy6v1XNHZnejyQdVAiuTOgPfM1tK6_oeHcAcBybGxjfk5okBNTQt1z6yQn4bJ8PWzRY/s400/Glass.jpg" width="266" /></a></div>
<br />
One small box - I got this one from Hobby Lobby
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiD2m6hauq7DBzU4_7h5KzcWOmUhABwFSUPMVA7i92SxFQoeZaWFrrI6Q2KtG7Bde_LK03n5wWa2n9LWtZv0kJ-xp62IacvJaKUViHZn8FA14wNmwGqj8eMI8v6jl1z7YsUMzG2jzM4VsM/s1600/Box.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="266" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiD2m6hauq7DBzU4_7h5KzcWOmUhABwFSUPMVA7i92SxFQoeZaWFrrI6Q2KtG7Bde_LK03n5wWa2n9LWtZv0kJ-xp62IacvJaKUViHZn8FA14wNmwGqj8eMI8v6jl1z7YsUMzG2jzM4VsM/s400/Box.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
I padded the box with some fabric scraps and printed out a label for the interior...done!
<br />
<br />

<br />
<br />
<b>
Gift Idea #2: Coffee, Coffee, Coffee
</b>
<br />
I'm a Dunkin Donuts coffee girl, so I am sharing the love with the party hostess. I thought it would be fun to come up with a unique card to accompany the coffee. All you need to create the card is hot glue, coffee beans...
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjcgpOLd7SEv3yjUoB-j06n2dBdYu-1YWAPBWDdA20GiNvMUpCI4_KNzRoKMCktmadyMRQrsoSnur7IGi8vfz5YDqpA7zKTECCFbBN7vGmJ9mYnf8Y-hXdawioaqXtvjYTrVvy3fVVHOYo/s1600/coffee+beans.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="266" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjcgpOLd7SEv3yjUoB-j06n2dBdYu-1YWAPBWDdA20GiNvMUpCI4_KNzRoKMCktmadyMRQrsoSnur7IGi8vfz5YDqpA7zKTECCFbBN7vGmJ9mYnf8Y-hXdawioaqXtvjYTrVvy3fVVHOYo/s400/coffee+beans.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
and (according to my oldest son) a bad sense of humor...

Each month parents have the opportunity to plan and execute themed activities for the kids. Last weekend I helped create a finance-themed event for my oldest son's group. Fortunately I was paired with a mom named Loren who literally bleeds creativity. She came up with the brilliant idea of teaching financial literacy through the use of a human monopoly game. We created a life-sized game board and the kids (in teams of two) were the game pieces. One team member was responsible for the money and the other held the deeds as they moved around the board. I'll jump to the punchline and tell you that the kids had an absolute blast playing the game! Here are some of the pics from the event...
<br />
<br />
Loren is the owner of a stationery company called <a href="http://www.statianery.com">Statianery</a>, so needless to say she created all of the printed products for the event. Those products included:

In addition to playing the monopoly game, we also reviewed financial concepts and handed out this<a href="http://www.clevelandfed.org/Learning_Center/Online_Activities/great_minds_think/index.cfm"> interactive booklet</a> that has great activities about money for kids.
<br />
<br />
I would definitely recommend the human monopoly game for both kids and adults!

With Halloween only two weeks away, my youngest son suggested that I make (and I quote) "one of those holiday lantern animal things". Here are my previous attempts at an <a href="http://www.hatterandhareevents.blogspot.com/2011/03/easter-bunny-lantern.html">Easter Bunny</a>, <a href="http://www.hatterandhareevents.blogspot.com/2012/03/easter-chick-lantern.html">Easter Chick</a> and <a href="http://www.hatterandhareevents.blogspot.com/2011/11/thanksgiving-turkey-lantern.html">Thanksgiving Turkey</a>. I decided to let my little guy choose which animal I would do and he threw out a black cat. So, at my son's request, I present a Halloween Black Cat Lantern...

<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjjWVC6Zon7Qxxbn1-k_wVe5oLaPyprAk98yqSwKj0FrZDn64Wco3eU0-uEklk4ebtFl9HA7m440pCA3ms99Gb-l4vkYs9Jr1l7gN50Q3ezRK14KzrqvB1VsyAfhSSGrGC6ujNYyoFATJo/s1600/Halloween+Plates.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="299" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjjWVC6Zon7Qxxbn1-k_wVe5oLaPyprAk98yqSwKj0FrZDn64Wco3eU0-uEklk4ebtFl9HA7m440pCA3ms99Gb-l4vkYs9Jr1l7gN50Q3ezRK14KzrqvB1VsyAfhSSGrGC6ujNYyoFATJo/s400/Halloween+Plates.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
...but, unfortunately, that never happened. Sorry! However, someone recently asked me about the templates, so I felt compelled to make good on my promise.<br />
<br/>
<br/> Just click on the links below and print the templates. I used foam paper to cut out the shapes and then attached them to 9" round plates using hot glue. <br />

I was pleasantly surprised when both of my guys gave two thumbs up to The Lorax (Dr. Seuss can do no wrong in my world). So I'm going to surprise them by purchasing the flick on DVD.

Of course I immediately saw this as a crafting opportunity as well! I went back through my craft archives for inspiration and landed on these...

Using the promo picture above as my guide, I roughly cut out the shapes for the Lorax's face using foam paper and hot glued them onto an orange visor. Here's the result...

We've already pulled out the world map in anticipation for tonight's opening ceremonies. We're even having fish & chips for dinner to make it feel like we're dining in a London pub. Hokey? Absolutely, but it's what we do.
<br/>
<br/>
So I had this great idea to make glasses for the boys to wear during our Olympic viewing party. I first bought some plastic glasses at Dollar Tree...
<br/><br/>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiUnHO1G6BCw9cKnXOEvep9cDV_gyFDLqs321d2CjqKMbdxdpTsPQ66aq2TC9V4ADM-iMAbS46IOQD-aEnMSmZWzBAf8JcR6Xl6iViXgxPZpx0bJuWAS1Wrx3RuH7PpXpEE00E_ifJBCOs/s1600/ring+glasses+pic1+v2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left:1em; margin-right:1em"><img border="0" height="277" width="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiUnHO1G6BCw9cKnXOEvep9cDV_gyFDLqs321d2CjqKMbdxdpTsPQ66aq2TC9V4ADM-iMAbS46IOQD-aEnMSmZWzBAf8JcR6Xl6iViXgxPZpx0bJuWAS1Wrx3RuH7PpXpEE00E_ifJBCOs/s400/ring+glasses+pic1+v2.jpg" /></a></div>
<br/>
Then I cut out Olympic rings using foam paper...
<br/><br/>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhl8bvYOzygq29_c_a5u1Wcg5TxL4gsWzb7lTFKN1_TG_AIZlstnL7AlcVrO-OK4_dBdhhdwD_7mO0SrN2QQeCZ4kQ9eP7SoHS_lt6VjfwHl8Wsc4Wvpmyu6PaeorrzkiHhDlVmpZ-nnD4/s1600/ring+glasses+pic2+v2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left:1em; margin-right:1em"><img border="0" height="209" width="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhl8bvYOzygq29_c_a5u1Wcg5TxL4gsWzb7lTFKN1_TG_AIZlstnL7AlcVrO-OK4_dBdhhdwD_7mO0SrN2QQeCZ4kQ9eP7SoHS_lt6VjfwHl8Wsc4Wvpmyu6PaeorrzkiHhDlVmpZ-nnD4/s400/ring+glasses+pic2+v2.jpg" /></a></div>
<br/>
Then I removed the foam stickers from the glasses and hot glued my rings onto them - here's the result (front view):
<br/><br/>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEil3hie1Xp_7pV8iFoihDSJmX_ho8x100XJGUoluiKyEzrizRI2I4FYtzpD2trL_RJT-UgYYnrKfWVDKIDoUnDp6elqJ1XQQgwg3MLbE-U_CEVCM6Lun1NZS6XEwqJbTzPNlEpBAKZuwI8/s1600/ring+glasses+pic3+v2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left:1em; margin-right:1em"><img border="0" height="208" width="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEil3hie1Xp_7pV8iFoihDSJmX_ho8x100XJGUoluiKyEzrizRI2I4FYtzpD2trL_RJT-UgYYnrKfWVDKIDoUnDp6elqJ1XQQgwg3MLbE-U_CEVCM6Lun1NZS6XEwqJbTzPNlEpBAKZuwI8/s400/ring+glasses+pic3+v2.jpg" /></a></div>
<br/>
(side view)
<br/><br/>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiWmVMREKBXXuAxSu_lo_FTJJ_5toVY518Std1hugVbCsgsKWJKAWNNhU0BzE_fz5nB5NEw9EmdgmupFrfLxeT_foBaEvb-nr9qU5-_YmwZpebJzFfYvW2v_BvSVCbKp99gD4fBaHQp0Gk/s1600/ring+glasses+pic4+v2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left:1em; margin-right:1em"><img border="0" height="283" width="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiWmVMREKBXXuAxSu_lo_FTJJ_5toVY518Std1hugVbCsgsKWJKAWNNhU0BzE_fz5nB5NEw9EmdgmupFrfLxeT_foBaEvb-nr9qU5-_YmwZpebJzFfYvW2v_BvSVCbKp99gD4fBaHQp0Gk/s400/ring+glasses+pic4+v2.jpg" /></a></div>
<br/>
And finally I bribed my kids to model the glasses...which ended up costing me as much as I spent at Dollar Tree!
<br/><br/>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjdmsZSI8ZfwX1M-I0oYDjH9vKbJqMNWNc3QUONTYyKskeT4xOqUG-OUw7KNlEgiNvZp0abyb2REnChIRw43eS84IxQ2k8BduHkrcpGEY5Fd6z5uRxj7W57kofJaJ9nL9pGZMpm3v0Rak4/s1600/ring+glasses+pic5+v2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left:1em; margin-right:1em"><img border="0" height="400" width="353" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjdmsZSI8ZfwX1M-I0oYDjH9vKbJqMNWNc3QUONTYyKskeT4xOqUG-OUw7KNlEgiNvZp0abyb2REnChIRw43eS84IxQ2k8BduHkrcpGEY5Fd6z5uRxj7W57kofJaJ9nL9pGZMpm3v0Rak4/s400/ring+glasses+pic5+v2.jpg" /></a></div>
<br/>
This was a super easy project that required very little effort and very little money - in other words, my favorite kind of project!
<br/><br/>

I get completely caught up when I enter one because everything is so affordable! So the other day I found some red and blue miniature watering cans - is it just me, or does everything look irresistible in miniature form?
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgISYK1ZC-XTqAuwpxF0YxjECNlH2QeYmfkSTqouhsl_KQe1DB-nPoW67KxveMcpENfEEjtfON5xf6_r9EaxeJTC3puvH1CHW0k5igS8UieFRH6XrmiOxKv5wvqYLdr1XZb3ovyK2MQV6w/s1600/justcan-001.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="258" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgISYK1ZC-XTqAuwpxF0YxjECNlH2QeYmfkSTqouhsl_KQe1DB-nPoW67KxveMcpENfEEjtfON5xf6_r9EaxeJTC3puvH1CHW0k5igS8UieFRH6XrmiOxKv5wvqYLdr1XZb3ovyK2MQV6w/s400/justcan-001.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
I also found some red and blue tablecloth weights...
<br/>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgEOZVMu2RQhan2mgZj56k-KmRm3JuPP1bekNKZTVcKLmiqywugVIF_YSW5ZZjcqcZ2nTbw87R_WmPcBeQESUKq4QSPdVYEB4iV9MM1TD_No6-LL5zsGcmGhyphenhyphenru0H52Hk9lnksRcsvUgSg/s1600/juststars-001.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgEOZVMu2RQhan2mgZj56k-KmRm3JuPP1bekNKZTVcKLmiqywugVIF_YSW5ZZjcqcZ2nTbw87R_WmPcBeQESUKq4QSPdVYEB4iV9MM1TD_No6-LL5zsGcmGhyphenhyphenru0H52Hk9lnksRcsvUgSg/s400/juststars-001.jpg" width="258" /></a></div>
<br />
I combined both of those items together to create a party favor for a 4th of July shindig.
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh6kM6U4PzZJ0u3hmgBoQNj_Cuwe6TNz-vhSebh8otVsb8ATC9Y_btGf_1wiADahD_WAJa20Zb6useehMbGNRp2uDPsss1wRtEnIupYYJ8MX7A9RAYxRq_XQT_BeBhquG01Bu7-aXYbats/s1600/4ofjulycan+pic1+blog.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="191" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh6kM6U4PzZJ0u3hmgBoQNj_Cuwe6TNz-vhSebh8otVsb8ATC9Y_btGf_1wiADahD_WAJa20Zb6useehMbGNRp2uDPsss1wRtEnIupYYJ8MX7A9RAYxRq_XQT_BeBhquG01Bu7-aXYbats/s400/4ofjulycan+pic1+blog.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
This is super easy to make. I bought three watering cans, one can of white spray paint and sisal twine. Since the watering cans and tablecloth weights only came in blue and red, I spray painted one set white. I then removed the clip from the weight and tied it onto the can with twine. Finally I added some hydrangeas from my garden and that's it!
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgffNsXxy2b3hvXjJE-xUyV9BuhRj-Of2k7Mx2hMJHioFQJHLX_OQT4Ir01_OXBXKLYJpKPa4M4WunWqSXDTJyX_FD60BMiR0BRkMBSnohXwzQJDFk3GsO2LZaesyn37yvtjvi-gsH7Y-Y/s1600/4ofjulycan+pic2+blog.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="303" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgffNsXxy2b3hvXjJE-xUyV9BuhRj-Of2k7Mx2hMJHioFQJHLX_OQT4Ir01_OXBXKLYJpKPa4M4WunWqSXDTJyX_FD60BMiR0BRkMBSnohXwzQJDFk3GsO2LZaesyn37yvtjvi-gsH7Y-Y/s400/4ofjulycan+pic2+blog.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>

Why 'giddy' you ask? Because two of the crafts that I originally created for this little blog are featured in the magazine! Here's the cover of the magazine on newsstands now...
<br />
<br />
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhyYsPwrNjY9XfMmDNNNT2lvzDEwWeza-mS1OSDjuG_d6k85WiF4KluyBKZVQ-io1gGw8tQxB-zp3N0vFB0OmHL3G8XRBS3nGTdQsoGBwVezZ-HkHlaJcdaujxVSTdtASD4mdDHjlBsWbk/s1600/familyfun+cover.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhyYsPwrNjY9XfMmDNNNT2lvzDEwWeza-mS1OSDjuG_d6k85WiF4KluyBKZVQ-io1gGw8tQxB-zp3N0vFB0OmHL3G8XRBS3nGTdQsoGBwVezZ-HkHlaJcdaujxVSTdtASD4mdDHjlBsWbk/s640/familyfun+cover.jpg" width="480" /></a>
<br />
<br />
Remember this <a href="http://hatterandhareevents.blogspot.com/2010/06/fourth-of-july-decorating-with-bandanas.html">post</a> featuring the bandana placemat and banner? Here is FamilyFun's take on those crafts...
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEha812wDozOfmGsokNQ5kzP-kI3BKQmruOCiu9nwAVvOLT0XrjPSzv1W0BEmtAqLI4kyGS13xvR9muGkiW8SfyxPeOZWbqWftEBf9Q6Tgkb6i-BpVThhUMLvPFEA3OEV7gq61sn00dsI78/s1600/familyfun+pic1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="266" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEha812wDozOfmGsokNQ5kzP-kI3BKQmruOCiu9nwAVvOLT0XrjPSzv1W0BEmtAqLI4kyGS13xvR9muGkiW8SfyxPeOZWbqWftEBf9Q6Tgkb6i-BpVThhUMLvPFEA3OEV7gq61sn00dsI78/s400/familyfun+pic1.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
I simply supplied the ideas and they did all the rest...
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgC_rGPFDQBxNDeJdiQnDujs6sP9Cqujt2IKLlGI1DtLbPRYlBAJ-7WE5XTF4xCfDGJhcdAGjPHSM3T6QWUIdAFmiSrkNpbIIVzZm2rx5nCkjYYP9_7CLuOp2eQxMwHclBnvZGKr3-f2bE/s1600/familyfun+pic2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="265" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgC_rGPFDQBxNDeJdiQnDujs6sP9Cqujt2IKLlGI1DtLbPRYlBAJ-7WE5XTF4xCfDGJhcdAGjPHSM3T6QWUIdAFmiSrkNpbIIVzZm2rx5nCkjYYP9_7CLuOp2eQxMwHclBnvZGKr3-f2bE/s400/familyfun+pic2.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
So now that I'd been published, I sat patiently waiting for the call from Martha's people. And waited. After three days with no call, I realized there had to be a problem. I went back to the magazine and there it was...<span style="font-size: small;"><b>THE WRONG BLOG ADDRESS!</b></span> Well at least that explains why I hadn't heard from Martha yet!
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

A couple of days ago I stumbled across another patriotic wreath <a href="http://naptimecrafting.blogspot.com/2011/06/another-patriotic-wreath.html">here</a> that inspired me to recreate the bandanna wreath in that style. Here's the result...
<br /><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhaiUug7BnhOTU0v929V304TSAGboSNVXPieHXVqklkgHUxP5QqISnxrujK5YDGvegnBVpTHk-SJpEV9H1r7ska1QZKc8BGwmgtZgvkX6tNIuz5qyxQ9SFqwi0vZ-3WSIRyYNY6Z11BftA/s1600/patriotic+wreath.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="363" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhaiUug7BnhOTU0v929V304TSAGboSNVXPieHXVqklkgHUxP5QqISnxrujK5YDGvegnBVpTHk-SJpEV9H1r7ska1QZKc8BGwmgtZgvkX6tNIuz5qyxQ9SFqwi0vZ-3WSIRyYNY6Z11BftA/s400/patriotic+wreath.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
This wreath was super easy to make. I cut red and white bandannas into 3" wide strips and hot glued them onto a Styrofoam wreath. I then glued a blue bandanna onto one side of the wreath. Finally I recycled the bow from the original wreath...
<br />
<br />

Much like starting a blog, getting found on Etsy has been an incredibly steep learning curve. But I'm happy to say that a few folks have stumbled by and graciously purchased products this month largely due to one thing: Graduation 2012!
<br />
<br />
Here are a couple of products that I created for the big event - a graduation banner...
<br />

So I typically end up hauling out all of my crafting supplies and letting them go for it. However this year I came across something at the grocery store that I thought would be a really pretty (and edible) semi-homemade gift...
<br />
<br />
it's a tulip bouquet!
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjrnk9-DkU-tN9R_L8Bws3OtZsvld8AqYKZUlCBFI1aveVaTEU23nWaQoiYkx-y_kH0OWCaMViWsQzUhSbqMyqEsgkXiU_iG1qwMPDB6web9PGJ9L4ZY-Ec0a2mBK4rEPTGp-EqMC2aoT8/s1600/cake+flowers+pic1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjrnk9-DkU-tN9R_L8Bws3OtZsvld8AqYKZUlCBFI1aveVaTEU23nWaQoiYkx-y_kH0OWCaMViWsQzUhSbqMyqEsgkXiU_iG1qwMPDB6web9PGJ9L4ZY-Ec0a2mBK4rEPTGp-EqMC2aoT8/s640/cake+flowers+pic1.jpg" width="472" /></a></div>
<br />
The flower part of the bouquet are actually creme-filled cakes made by Little Debbie. They come in pink too.
<br />
<br />

<br />
I dyed some sweet coconut flakes green for the grass. And then I inserted a bamboo skewer into a piece of green licorice for the stem.

This was super easy to assemble. My kids can't stop asking if it's time to make their real bouquets yet . I hope I get one from them too!

The inspiration for the favor came from this amazing craft created by Zakka Life - see it <a href="http://zakkalife.blogspot.com/2011/02/its-bird-its-plane-its-super-valentine.html">here</a>.
</br>
</br>
I made graduation pops!
</br>
</br>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhrEEjz4H4leSXzIPbxkClFAVV70lSR2qzB8AzhLlTgi8FjrrL-UUFMUc1a6cjY16PM6pDCU_6bRW610yXRQYdJRK8ctp5rz4EaVlaT-nt_sKH4RtokBKI__3hsTbVjYmxCo6Xoe-cLWuU/s1600/grad+pop+pic1.1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left:1em; margin-right:1em"><img border="0" height="292" width="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhrEEjz4H4leSXzIPbxkClFAVV70lSR2qzB8AzhLlTgi8FjrrL-UUFMUc1a6cjY16PM6pDCU_6bRW610yXRQYdJRK8ctp5rz4EaVlaT-nt_sKH4RtokBKI__3hsTbVjYmxCo6Xoe-cLWuU/s400/grad+pop+pic1.1.jpg" /></a></div>
</br>
This is a super easy craft to make. First gather up some black plastic bottle tops - these are from bottles of root beer.
</br>
</br>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjGhOqde4517kZSqlS2RhcESJsNxtCZys9Yux9axgSca00_mxPMWmc0Zam3gghAd-szFzhgLprOnMlMjlAI8q16pGUMg2oP6kb6l3A2VZoqyAe5cosl6ZGpsuBbclTMF1f8SCMWdZIUK-M/s1600/grad+pop+pic4.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left:1em; margin-right:1em"><img border="0" height="266" width="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjGhOqde4517kZSqlS2RhcESJsNxtCZys9Yux9axgSca00_mxPMWmc0Zam3gghAd-szFzhgLprOnMlMjlAI8q16pGUMg2oP6kb6l3A2VZoqyAe5cosl6ZGpsuBbclTMF1f8SCMWdZIUK-M/s400/grad+pop+pic4.jpg" /></a></div>
</br>
Then make the tassels by following these <a href="http://www.instructables.com/id/How-to-make-a-tassel/">instructions</a>.
</br>
</br>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgbHXIcyP1h4UIIob7a5K9cBgkpysLKF3eF-93k3Y-w_c_O-qa-78IBWtAoHvi_3ML69xB25SYBHIpFUzdGk3L7bDoAvbNrwAHh_f_czEsbRh87np8JuAX0bMjgkqx7HA97Y3DGvbUjTzo/s1600/grad+pop+pic3.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left:1em; margin-right:1em"><img border="0" height="246" width="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgbHXIcyP1h4UIIob7a5K9cBgkpysLKF3eF-93k3Y-w_c_O-qa-78IBWtAoHvi_3ML69xB25SYBHIpFUzdGk3L7bDoAvbNrwAHh_f_czEsbRh87np8JuAX0bMjgkqx7HA97Y3DGvbUjTzo/s400/grad+pop+pic3.jpg" /></a></div>
</br>
Finally cut 2"x 2" squares and small circles out of black foam paper or cardstock. Hot glue the bottle top to the square and then hot glue the tassel onto the top of the square. Finish it off by gluing the small circle on top.
</br>
</br>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEghb9GVabEk1w7AW2PEIb7JEnx6XlOlASyBBUBcn1XkpD-abN4cLi5_pt_dZ8Fs9yT7P-WSpy_0HVZIUgUWsDzfHUSvQrLCVGcEVUVk-Grwse01OOwLhndWP5ELc6RXciqpqxBvyCXZtnE/s1600/grad+pop+pic5.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left:1em; margin-right:1em"><img border="0" height="267" width="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEghb9GVabEk1w7AW2PEIb7JEnx6XlOlASyBBUBcn1XkpD-abN4cLi5_pt_dZ8Fs9yT7P-WSpy_0HVZIUgUWsDzfHUSvQrLCVGcEVUVk-Grwse01OOwLhndWP5ELc6RXciqpqxBvyCXZtnE/s400/grad+pop+pic5.jpg" /></a></div>
</br>
Almost too cute to eat!

This year the crafter in me decided to put some of them to good use by making refrigerator magnets...
</br>
</br>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiP3fmqeLrZxhSg2nZ7qmACxp7aYuv6KrMns7eeQSaZuPT1s0qf8dRlgA0mLXhvHNVRGqIvwGurZPzQsupK3ISsqg0vQ1QZtPIfzbGvXCEAhzu1Se40Gy7NFvYx1on86MH7o6cocqDpMbQ/s1600/egg+magnet+pic1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left:1em; margin-right:1em"><img border="0" height="290" width="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiP3fmqeLrZxhSg2nZ7qmACxp7aYuv6KrMns7eeQSaZuPT1s0qf8dRlgA0mLXhvHNVRGqIvwGurZPzQsupK3ISsqg0vQ1QZtPIfzbGvXCEAhzu1Se40Gy7NFvYx1on86MH7o6cocqDpMbQ/s400/egg+magnet+pic1.jpg" /></a></div>
</br>
All you need to make these are plastic eggs, sticker letters, magnet tape and hot glue. Just put the letters on the front of the eggs and the magnet tape on the back (I also used hot glue to reinforce the magnets). That's it.
</br>
</br>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiv1wMt2FdmgxMQPZnq6Cw2N9G_PlB6FPu5lJKSoImJTg7Gxncta66NAZAxIiVF8R3BTux8d2-e3PCQeyjq_l4x3dPQ_GZXa9LG3aPj9kMfMQ9Ebxs_151gFoVgj_R2EcohdMnidXJNTgI/s1600/egg+magnet+pic2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left:1em; margin-right:1em"><img border="0" height="400" width="266" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiv1wMt2FdmgxMQPZnq6Cw2N9G_PlB6FPu5lJKSoImJTg7Gxncta66NAZAxIiVF8R3BTux8d2-e3PCQeyjq_l4x3dPQ_GZXa9LG3aPj9kMfMQ9Ebxs_151gFoVgj_R2EcohdMnidXJNTgI/s400/egg+magnet+pic2.jpg" /></a></div>
</br>
When my kids saw the eggs on the fridge they insisted on making their own - either crafting is in their blood or it's contagious!
</br>

This year my youngest son, who has assumed the role of creative director of this blog, strongly suggested that I create an Easter Chick so that the bunny (and I quote) "would have a friend". Was there any way I could say no to that? Exactly, and here's the result...

Oddly enough this also became the perfect opportunity to invest in another cookie cutter - I mean doesn't everyone need a 5" shamrock-shaped cutter?
</br>
</br>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjUwyx7LB5BXcdh4KrBn-6UWhnk3k_b87PxdcCrki-sXDCcyzYr7OEtoCiShWW-A9aKqYci_8dk-AIccxsIn4W0AXVxJSaJbqGZFdq6ChwfN7zwEE9xF9LUBHTl0Rca_fjwpg52nYljszs/s1600/shamrock+cutter.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left:1em; margin-right:1em"><img border="0" height="362" width="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjUwyx7LB5BXcdh4KrBn-6UWhnk3k_b87PxdcCrki-sXDCcyzYr7OEtoCiShWW-A9aKqYci_8dk-AIccxsIn4W0AXVxJSaJbqGZFdq6ChwfN7zwEE9xF9LUBHTl0Rca_fjwpg52nYljszs/s400/shamrock+cutter.jpg" /></a></div>
<br />
Using a spinach and herb tortilla wrap, I simply cut out the shape and filled it up with club sandwich ingredients.

Yum! I think I'm going to have to make an adult version of this that's paired with a glass of green beer!

So why I didn't start planning their parties until the last week of February escapes me! Typically I start party planning right after Christmas so I won't be completely stressed out come March. However, the threat of madness somehow wasn't enough of a deterrent for me to start planning early - hence the reason I'm a little scary to be around right now.
<br />
<br />
My first big task was to convince my boys to have one big party versus individual parties like <a href="http://hatterandhareevents.blogspot.com/2011/03/tale-of-two-birthdays-invitations.html">last year</a>. It took about 1.2 seconds for that idea to get shot down. My oldest son had already decided to have a painting themed party and my youngest was dead set on having a cooking party. Score: Kids-1, Mom-0. Fortunately after a few hours of research, I was able to locate and book venues for both parties.
<br />
<br />
Next task - invitations. I believe that invitations set the tone for a party, so I always like to create something that will get the kids excited for the main event. I came across a ton of ideas on the Internet for invitations. With the little time I had I combined some of those ideas and came up with the following invitations.
<br />
<br />
For the painting party...a watercolor set. Here's the front of the invitation:
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh_G4cZijmvfXQWVifDNMJDGkHxZzdkZ8DeXg8VY3lEds9PNwcpm8vhWiPtj-HgExJiJZz3TUydm6ZcUSiCq2oqtoKgh53DsIYWdcbrmSIkR5wh-An686tvOi2JIX1jpDstoDuUNfTsJsA/s1600/art+invite+pic1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="265" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh_G4cZijmvfXQWVifDNMJDGkHxZzdkZ8DeXg8VY3lEds9PNwcpm8vhWiPtj-HgExJiJZz3TUydm6ZcUSiCq2oqtoKgh53DsIYWdcbrmSIkR5wh-An686tvOi2JIX1jpDstoDuUNfTsJsA/s400/art+invite+pic1.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
and here's the back with the details of the party...
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjK8_1vqcI1WnQSL9WZYMJGaxCqamNXztRHVUvfdysE3vkpQnIENCvDP_y1RNu1Z987JuHz3SzAHC2DhXzhgdB6cfGjSkwNyv34RWedy4jel13m6RgDXuNW4jxuInCKLjF8p0_qGLR4FEc/s1600/art+invite+pic3.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="265" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjK8_1vqcI1WnQSL9WZYMJGaxCqamNXztRHVUvfdysE3vkpQnIENCvDP_y1RNu1Z987JuHz3SzAHC2DhXzhgdB6cfGjSkwNyv34RWedy4jel13m6RgDXuNW4jxuInCKLjF8p0_qGLR4FEc/s400/art+invite+pic3.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
For the cooking party...a recipe card.
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhtAGMl7meejLuAfGYRQIaZ0ABy6f9s2cMmCnPVboyARJUuXasqb6LPVHaNFEZzUg6Rl3waZZG-Z5mJwMw-NcSVMYSjElASMc-Z_TfdPX05CUgipgJTdO3HzjmKdw1GSChBkn9D0ujVQx8/s1600/chef+invite+pic3.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhtAGMl7meejLuAfGYRQIaZ0ABy6f9s2cMmCnPVboyARJUuXasqb6LPVHaNFEZzUg6Rl3waZZG-Z5mJwMw-NcSVMYSjElASMc-Z_TfdPX05CUgipgJTdO3HzjmKdw1GSChBkn9D0ujVQx8/s640/chef+invite+pic3.jpg" width="425" /></a></div>
<br />
I found the most adorable little oven mitts in the dollar section at Michael's craft store that served as envelopes for the invitations.
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEinV8jvC9WL5nGHX6M4hxwJA2BVNps_KpLQ7tfahiAIfq6vXMg5qu7l4WUhGEBpsn9N3KjxhUORV1rluTjNmAoLzrdHC3D0pBd0-8Kk30AfPraoeEDr4gPnBvx3j1kGMXf7RIHtJnQX_fc/s1600/chef+invite+pic1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="229" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEinV8jvC9WL5nGHX6M4hxwJA2BVNps_KpLQ7tfahiAIfq6vXMg5qu7l4WUhGEBpsn9N3KjxhUORV1rluTjNmAoLzrdHC3D0pBd0-8Kk30AfPraoeEDr4gPnBvx3j1kGMXf7RIHtJnQX_fc/s400/chef+invite+pic1.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
I finished off the invitation by putting each child's name on the pot holder...
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhub8coLk_J-s5VulmXtOhqqSbkTAbcStEVNiwHDAvLKeQGayTuj6Fe2MjuTk5e4k4ELmZOJ1CmB3ytMkXKJ2ZtXdr1EIC_dV9dMtZVQouYxjftcdZSmfiFEH-kNEDI3jciWog3JOrwgsI/s1600/chef+pic4.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="266" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhub8coLk_J-s5VulmXtOhqqSbkTAbcStEVNiwHDAvLKeQGayTuj6Fe2MjuTk5e4k4ELmZOJ1CmB3ytMkXKJ2ZtXdr1EIC_dV9dMtZVQouYxjftcdZSmfiFEH-kNEDI3jciWog3JOrwgsI/s400/chef+pic4.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
I haven't planned any other details yet (food, cake, decorations, etc), so I should be good and crazy by the end of next week - pray for me!

I'm more than a little bit embarrassed to admit that I had absolutely no idea what <i>ombre</i> was, but a quick google search fixed that. Here's what I found...
<br />
<br />
Ombre (noun): A French term meaning "shaded." Usually a multicolored stripe, with colors graduating from light to dark.
<br />
<br />
Now that I had discovered this uber cool technique, I had to join in the challenge fun. Given the fact that March is right around the corner, I thought it would be appropriate to create a St. Patrick's Day project that incorporated the ombre design. I completely lucked out by finding pre-cut shamrocks in varying shades of green at Michael's craft store.
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj-YWbrXuQIQM1Fhnm7LCm7k_XP9LmLaMCjHmz7BrIm0km1ZTJkjeQg3nCUak2uCFpafBaa1470U00ulINs-PJlpYyUPfiG5WUmiTgSbe29MBhau2uAoyAk4uLaH_Kawddarfc_b6PpAO4/s1600/lucky+pic1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="266" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj-YWbrXuQIQM1Fhnm7LCm7k_XP9LmLaMCjHmz7BrIm0km1ZTJkjeQg3nCUak2uCFpafBaa1470U00ulINs-PJlpYyUPfiG5WUmiTgSbe29MBhau2uAoyAk4uLaH_Kawddarfc_b6PpAO4/s400/lucky+pic1.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
First I sorted the shamrocks by color (there were 3 of each shade) and attached them together using hot glue.
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgiOghVINhRUNqzSh6UhlyqBF0rgZc1rd7bdGrg1JqWuI2ZgZrvwsnSi0NjW47GFHGsj8kISoFtudN6Ce21GrXUkLNaGgBoQvRIR_0A6cClFKrWySxWzSuyRTV_vD-z5s3g0yY9pMz1GYo/s1600/lucky+pic2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="203" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgiOghVINhRUNqzSh6UhlyqBF0rgZc1rd7bdGrg1JqWuI2ZgZrvwsnSi0NjW47GFHGsj8kISoFtudN6Ce21GrXUkLNaGgBoQvRIR_0A6cClFKrWySxWzSuyRTV_vD-z5s3g0yY9pMz1GYo/s400/lucky+pic2.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
Then I hot glued all of the rows of shamrocks together to make a large rectangle shape.
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj1NpjdgIMHfHTwHsVq_UqsYGfAjvN6ZMhzjN3jBBXRPoxZ5ZkN2TzjXaCZwhAnVVu74wFZp6o3BWh9Por1OnqxCp6oBspHXelrOZS3zXggRhBHYwRd0s0rYAcvSQRjHOXCDF7BAcgsAYc/s1600/lucky+pic3.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj1NpjdgIMHfHTwHsVq_UqsYGfAjvN6ZMhzjN3jBBXRPoxZ5ZkN2TzjXaCZwhAnVVu74wFZp6o3BWh9Por1OnqxCp6oBspHXelrOZS3zXggRhBHYwRd0s0rYAcvSQRjHOXCDF7BAcgsAYc/s400/lucky+pic3.jpg" width="282" /></a></div>
<br />
Finally I attached the shamrocks to a frame using clear nylon thread and created a little burlap banner.
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEivwkwe6DVmUDxFLNfcdgVjJ2aSiul1yO5_FV5OS3_A0O09TI45vKNUwNlPcjVrOU6y4-43JBSoW7ddClbNbzr9TvHfEALKLPB5nnQA7meZU7PbLrVpemk7lB_x7ZtQJC6Ku0bzNYPPkwA/s1600/lucky+pic4.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="318" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEivwkwe6DVmUDxFLNfcdgVjJ2aSiul1yO5_FV5OS3_A0O09TI45vKNUwNlPcjVrOU6y4-43JBSoW7ddClbNbzr9TvHfEALKLPB5nnQA7meZU7PbLrVpemk7lB_x7ZtQJC6Ku0bzNYPPkwA/s400/lucky+pic4.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
Here's the final result...

This past weekend her baby turned 1, but I'm still in denial that an entire year has past! My friend, much like myself, is a theme-girl and her daughter's birthday party theme was Minnie Mouse.
<br />
<br />
I was honored to be asked to make something for the big event and immersed myself in research. I rarely have the opportunity to make products that include licensed characters (never for money and only for friends), so this was a treat. I decided to make a door sign similar to the ones I sell in my <a href="http://www.etsy.com/shop/hatterandhareevents">Etsy shop</a>. Here's the result...
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgpGFM1geltDkCAUS8Nrc0IeK0ts2bsRIW7JfspmQDAeEyTgNFS76pSaCnJnsYRlBgoRdODYFifq9MtiypsIrseySY6MAR-_H-d_0VQ3Y16pWENnD_UDt6O8OpVaGuvOMvGCF9XhaCUdFw/s1600/minnie+pic1A.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgpGFM1geltDkCAUS8Nrc0IeK0ts2bsRIW7JfspmQDAeEyTgNFS76pSaCnJnsYRlBgoRdODYFifq9MtiypsIrseySY6MAR-_H-d_0VQ3Y16pWENnD_UDt6O8OpVaGuvOMvGCF9XhaCUdFw/s640/minnie+pic1A.jpg" width="395" /></a></div>
<br />
I never knew Minnie had such long eyelashes - I'm thinking they're fake!
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEglHWTlBoyHh7mvuFYUEuUEeBLUEF26ZLr6bv7-EKVtvQc25a8NM23g7xJJmL6cvYRLwA6cboxz7FKMaOCqo8Vsq6btk7HiKEuTWeVfT-g0fhDdDqpmvqEjPDkNp1KPH2F8J1zP7itA14c/s1600/minnie+pic2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEglHWTlBoyHh7mvuFYUEuUEeBLUEF26ZLr6bv7-EKVtvQc25a8NM23g7xJJmL6cvYRLwA6cboxz7FKMaOCqo8Vsq6btk7HiKEuTWeVfT-g0fhDdDqpmvqEjPDkNp1KPH2F8J1zP7itA14c/s640/minnie+pic2.jpg" width="467" /></a></div>
<br />
This project also gave me the opportunity to try a new technique - printing on burlap fabric. It was super easy, which of course means that you'll be seeing a lot more burlap from me!
<br />
<br />

Fortunately there are a ton of bloggers who are way smarter than me and have figured this out - big shout out to Chelsea and her <a href="http://sewbold.blogspot.com/2012/01/how-link-to-pdf-in-blogger.html">tutorial</a> on this very topic.
<br />
<br />
All this to say, please disregard the link at the bottom of this post that no longer works and use this one instead: <a href="https://docs.google.com/open?id=0B_T7huXXjHqdbkFfbXk2YlRJYnc">V-Day Dinosaur Template that really works!</a>

Thanks!

Some of you might remember this card that I made last year...

<br />
This little dino has been popping up in a variety of different places around the net, most recently in this article that appeared on <a href="http://glo.msn.com/relationships/valentines-day-diy-7818.gallery">Glo</a>...I'm beyond honored and excited to be included in this group of crafty folks!
<br />
<br />
A few people have asked me for a template of the dinosaur. I wasn't exactly sure how to attach a file within a blog post, but I think I figured it out (still learning after almost 2 years of blogging).
<br />
<br />
Here's a link to the <a href="https://acrobat.com/#d=B9aoD-fNzi*3WgJqdUaDBA">V-Day Dinosaur Template</a>. By the way, the darkened area on the template is where the googly eyes should go. I hope this helps!
